A big difference: being part of Seclight

Meet Ylva Hansson, information security consultant at Seclight.

— The work at Seclight is varied. My role includes both working for clients and building Seclight itself.

So says Ylva Hansson, who has worked at Seclight for a year as an information security consultant.

During her career in IT and digital security, Ylva has built up an ability to see around corners, understanding both the customer and the supplier very well.

For Ylva, a typical work week is a mix of delivering to clients and building the organisation itself, where many different things need to be put in place — everything from the website and contract templates to routines for working together.

— Tasks aimed at clients always come first, and I use the gaps in between to work on internal matters, says Ylva.

With the site gdprcert.se Seclight offers companies and organisations an open and free opportunity to train employees in the basics of the General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR. The service has also provided an opportunity for skills development.

— I've deepened my knowledge of GDPR through my work writing the texts, says Ylva.

Seclight's work for clients across different industries often provides opportunities for specialisation within digital security.

— Before I joined Seclight, I had studied web development. I've been able to put these skills to use both with clients and in the work on seclight.com. I've also gone deeper into, for example, the NIS and NIS2 directives and the ISO 27001 standard.

There's a big difference between being part of Seclight and working at a traditional organisation with IT consultants, Ylva notes.

— A large company is like an ocean liner, where it takes time and is cumbersome to change course, she says.

— At Seclight, it's often just a phone call or a chat message away from getting a decision.

Ylva has solid experience in IT delivery, information security and data protection. Previously, she worked for 19 years at WM-data/Logica/CGI, where she held various roles, from being responsible for a data centre team to being in charge of the company's sourcing descriptions in client contracts.

— There's a similarity between WM-data and Seclight, and that's the corporate culture. When I started at WM-data in the late '90s, the so-called WM-data spirit was a cherished concept within the company. It meant that management conveyed that employees were the most important resource and that the working environment should be sustainable, says Ylva.

— We had activities for us employees and for our families. A lot was invested in leadership training, and the founders would come to these sessions and introduce themselves. When Fredrik Holmqvist talks about the vision for Seclight, I recognise a lot from my time at WM-data.

What do you enjoy most about your work at Seclight?

— It's getting to experience how well and efficiently things work out when we combine our different knowledge and experience. One plus one truly becomes three, says Ylva.

— The short decision paths are also liberating when you come from a global company with tens of thousands of employees in a traditional organisation. At Seclight, nothing gets stuck.

Seclight is a consultancy focused on digital security.
